Meet a Mom – Tara Heyderman | Essex County Moms

Our very first Meet a Mom on essexcountymoms.com is Tara Heyderman.

1.How many kids do you have and what are their ages?
2-ages 7 and 9
2. How long have you lived in Livingston and what made you decide to live here?
I was born and raised in Livingston. I moved back to raise a family 9 years ago. My parents live in town and my sister a town over. i always knew I’d move back. It’s a great place to raise a family.
3.Tell us about your business and what other local things you are involved in!  And how did you get started?
I started working for Arlene Streisand’s Camp Specialists as an Independent Specialist 6 years ago. I love offering a free service helping parents find the right camp(s) for their children. We work with over a hundred different camps and teen tours and I get to talk about camp all year long. When I’m not working I help with fundraising and parent support for the NICU at St Barnabas Medical Center, as well as volunteering at both NCJW and Temple B’nai Abraham.
4.Favorite thing to do when you need “me time”?
I love to read. There is nothing better than getting lost in a story.
5.Favorite place for dinner?
Belmont Tavern in Belleville.
6.How do you balance your career and being a mom?
I love that my job is mostly on my schedule. It keeps me busy and I love it but I can be with my kids whenever I need to.
7.Best advice you have gotten from a mom?
People always say the days are long and the years are short. A reminder to try to enjoy the day to day even when it is exhausting. oh and always pack snacks.
8.Best piece of advice you can give other moms!
You can never go wrong doing the right thing. It’s a good lesson for moms and “mom friends” and to teach our kids.
9.One thing people would be surprised to  know about you…
I loved camp and believe that there is no better gift to give our kids. But i was, at one point, the extremely homesick camper. My mom has the dramatic letters from my 9 year old self to prove it. i went back the following summer and stayed til the very end after 8 years, and was beside myself when I could not longer remain a camper.
